Katina Pinkamaππ
A Pinkama which falls into the category of eight great merits. The Katina Pinkama will begin with the Esala Full Moon Poya. Katina Chivara Pooja is performed only once a year. All work is done as per the instructions of the Chief Incumbent. Pinkama will be held as usual on Saturdays and Sundays until Katina Pinkama is held. This Pinkama is organized with the help of the people in the house who conduct the Katina Pinkama.✊
They will do
the repairs and painting of the temple .
The Chief Incumbent of the temple proposes a date for the Pinkama and then gives the opportunity to the contributors .Devotees are eagerly waiting to contribute to this pilgrimage. Many offerings are made for this purpose.π
They are,
- Atapirikara
- Soap, Panadol, medicine packets
- Brooms, rugs, pavements, pots etc.
Pirith chanting is performed 3 days before the Katina Pinkama. This Katina Chivara is kept in the house where the Pinkama is held and the devotees are given the opportunity to worship. This is a very rare type of pilgrimage. In the middle of the night on the day of the Pinkama, the procession takes to the streets carrying the Chivara placed in the Ran Sivigeya. Goes all over the village and there are opportunities for everyone to get involved. Before sunrise one should go to the temple with the Katina Chivara.
It is a
tradition.
After that the Pinkama begins with the visit of the monks to the surrounding temples. Then a Panditha Thero worships the Buddha and offers the Chivara to the Sangha. There they will preach the Katina Anishansa The alms prepared by the donors are then offered. At the end of all, all offerings are made.
After that
all the work of the Pinkama will be completed…
It is a privilege to be able to contribute to
such a noble cause.ππ
